Chile: Punta Arenas Coal Gasification Reverse Trade Mission (RTM)
June 9-17, 2013 │Washington, DC, Wilsonville, AL, and Schenectady, NY
Tuatara organized the technical program for a Chilean delegation to showcase U.S. technologies and financial structuring options for the Punta Arenas Coal Gasification project. Located in the extreme south of Chile, the privately-held company Minera Invierno was founded in 2006 as a joint venture between Empresas Copec S.A. and Inversiones Ultraterra Ltd., two major Chilean companies active in a variety of heavy industrial sectors. Facilities at Mina Invierno include the mine itself as well as an on-site port intended for shipping to various generators throughout the country and for international sale. In addition to coal production, coal gasification would be an integral part of the operation. The delegation traveled to Washington, DC, Wilsonville, AL, and Schenectady, NY for meetings and site visits. A financing roundtable was held at the Inter American Development Bank with IDB, EXIM Bank, and as private debt and equity firms.
